Ambassador Dr Ney welcomes Minister of State Hardeep Singh Puri for lunch with EU Ambassadors at his Residence
Ambassador Dr. Martin Ney welcomed the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri as Guest of Honour, at his Residence.
Urban development in India was the focus of the conversation. The Minister underlined the importance of the cooperation and said, "If India succeeds, the Agenda 2030 will succeed". According to current predictions, in 2050 one of two Indian citizens will live in urban agglomerations. India will only be able to fulfill its own development goals if the major infrastructural challenges in cities are solved. Ambassador Ney reiterated Germany's commitment to expand its partnership in this important area of development.
Germany is supporting the Indian Smart Cities initiative aiming to improve the living conditions of people in growing metropolitan areas by expanding infrastructure. The ongoing Indo-German cooperation for sustainable urban development currently has a financial volume of approx. 1.6 Billion euros. Special focus is on cooperation in the field of transportation in the smart cities Bhubaneswar, Kochi and Coimbatore.
