Cultural Counsellor Dietrich Graf von der Schulenburg at the German Reading Competition: Language learning opens up new horizons

An Inter-school German Reading Competition was organized at the Birla Vidya Niketan School, Saket in which the students from six different schools in Delhi participated. The competition was inaugurated by the Counsellor, Dietrich Graf von der Schulenburg. “Language learning opens up new horizons”, he said. The counsellor encouraged the students to keep learning German, which would open up a new cultural window for them. He also pointed out on the importance of reading. Reading competitions aim to inculcate reading habits in children and give them an incentive to open a book. Enlarge image

The participant schools offer German language as an optional language in their curriculum under the aegis of the Central Agency in Schools Abroad. The students were assessed on the basis of the quality of articulation, intonation, presentation and the clarity of their voices. The prizes and the certificates were awarded to the winners and the runner-ups by the principal and all jury members.

The jury comprised of the Cultural Counsellor of the German Embassy, Dietrich Graf von der Schulenburg, Principal of the German School New Delhi, Procolino Antacido and the Country Head of the Central Agency for Schools Abroad, Dr. Ulrike Schmidt.
