In Wolfsburg, nearly 200 young people from eleven countries, including India, laid the foundation stone for a worldwide youth climate network within the youthinkgreen programme. They aim to implement specific everyday action against climate change in 13 cities around the globe through local sustainability projects. The students from New Delhi are participating with a project on sustainable waste management.

Germany and India held their annual bilateral consultations on development cooperation in New Delhi on 30 April and 1 May, 2012. As the two countries celebrate 60 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Year of Germany in India 2011 – 2012, a record four umbrella agreements were signed and the consultations confirmed focusing on the identified areas of energy, environment and sustainable economic development.

German solar delegation to visit India in May 2012

Solar delegation from Germany to visit India

With the Government of India aiming to cover 10 percent of energy demand with renewable energy by 2012, solar power is set to play an important role in the country. With this in mind, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) has been organising solar delegation visits from Germany under its 'Renewable Energies Export Initiative'. Between 22 - 25 May 2012, the Indo-German Chamber Commerce (IGCC), together with Eclareon GmbH, will organise the fourth such visit for the German solar industry, mainly to Delhi.
