Dr Jasper Wieck speaks at Fraunhofer Workshop on Smart Cities
Fraunhofer Society, with the support of the German Ministry of Education and Research, Indian Ministry of Urban Development and National Institute of Urban Affairs organised a Smart City Solution workshop on the theme “Building the city of tomorrow” on 9th May at Shangri La Eros Hotel, New Delhi. Chargé d’ Affaires Dr Jasper Wieck gave the welcome address.

Germany has a lot to offer when it comes to creating smart and thriving cities. Building the cities of tomorrow is an enormous global challenge that India and Germany will tackle jointly. A joint Indo-German Working Group on Urbanization has been formed. Moreover, within India’s Smart Cities Mission, Germany is lending support to three Indian cities: Bhubaneshwar, Kochi and Coimbatore”, he said.

The workshop also included sessions on topics like Smart Water Management, Financing Models for Indian Smart Cities, Sustainable Energy Systems for Smart Cities, Mobility and Stakeholder Participation amongst others. The lectures were followed by interactive Q&A sessions. Mr. Ambitabh Kant, CEO Niti Aayog, gave a speech at the closing session of the workshop.
A networking dinner was organised on the same evening. Participants included representatives of five German research networks on Smart Cities that will present their solutions at the 3rd Indian Smart Cities Expo, taking place from 10 – 12 May in New Delhi.
