Map of research areas in German universities
The German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) has launched an online research map showing the particular areas of research that German universities are working on.
“The scope and diversity of research activity at our universities is impressive," said HRK President Prof. Margret Wintermantel today in Bonn. “The HRK research map now provides information in German and English about 329 main areas that define the research profile of 74 universities.

On the map of Germany, you can select individual universities or federal states with a click of the mouse, and search for particular academic fields or combinations of these, or search for specific terms.”
The information about the research areas in the online database includes a descriptive name, a short description in layman’s terms, and 12 specialist key terms. Each entry is assigned to one or more of 14 specialist areas according to the classification of scientific subject areas by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft – DFG), and provides a named contact at the university. In most cases, a link to a website with further information is provided. Amendments are made on an ongoing basis at the request of the universities.
