Fellowship in climate research at International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling

The International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling (IMPRS-ESM), in Hamburg, offers fellowships to outstanding students interested in interdisciplinary climate research. Emphasizing the physical system, the School encompasses the broader field of Earth sciences, including economics and social sciences. The PhD program is open to applicants holding a Master’s degree (with written thesis) in physics, geophysical sciences including meteorology and oceanography, chemistry, ecology, mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics, or political science. Also students currently still working on their MSc thesis are encouraged to apply.

Visiting Advanced Joint Research Faculty Scheme (VAJRA)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention at Bengaluru on 8th January 2017 had announced the launching of VAJRA (Visiting Advanced Joint Research) Faculty scheme by the Department of Science and Technology which enables Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and overseas scientific community to participate and contribute to research and development in India. The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body of the Department has implemented the Scheme. The VAJRA faculty engages in collaborative research in public funded institutions. The Indian collaborator and the overseas faculty will jointly frame a research plan and the application duly endorsed by the Head of the Institution will be submitted online by the Indian collaborator. Public funded academic institutions and national laboratories are eligible to host the VAJRA Faculty. Applications for VAJRA Faculty Scheme can be submitted from July 1, 2017 onwards.

Franco-German Fellowship Programme on Climate, Energy and Earth System Research by German Ministry of Education and Reserach

Germany and France are inviting researchers from all over the world to cooperate with German and French partners to advance sustainability research in the fields of Research on climate change, Research for the energy transition and Research to understand the Earth system. It is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). MOPGA-GRI stands for „Make Our Planet Great Again – German Research Initiative“. Both junior and senior researchers of all nationalities who have not resided in Germany in the last two years can apply. Junior researchers must have completed their doctorate with distinction at least two years prior to the application deadline of the programme. Applicants are expected to have an excellent record of publications and/or patents and wish to set up their own research group an realize a highly original and innovative research project at a German university or research institution of their choice.

DAAD Call for Applications: Bilateral Exchange of Academics

To improve international relations and bilateral research cooperations between German and foreign universities, the DAAD supports exchanges of scientists and academics from partner countries. The basis of these exchanges is cultural exchange programmes and bilateral agreements with foreign partner organisations. Applications are invited from foreign academics and scientists who have usually completed a doctoral degree and work at a university or research institute in their home country. Based on bilateral MoUs with partner organizations in India the exchange of faculty is only possible for scientists and faculty at research institutes of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), universities under the responsibility of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Numerous Call for Proposals have been announced under the Erasmus+ Programme, the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport as well as on the 2016 and 2017 Erasmus+ annual work programmes. The Erasmus+ programme covers the period 2014 to 2020. Any public or private body active in the fields of education, training, youth and sport may apply for funding within this programme. In addition, groups of young people who are active in youth work, but not necessarily in the context of a youth organisation, may apply to learn mobility of young people and youth workers as well as for strategic partnerships in the field of youth. Under the ERASMUS+ programme there are a definite number of calls for proposals having different deadlines till October 2017.

Online double-master degree program by the University of Koblenz-Landau, Germany

The Institute for Environmental Sciences of the University of Koblenz-Landau has launched a new online double-master degree program that includes two different master courses, M.Sc. Environmental Science and M.Sc. Ecotoxicology. The online double-master degree program is designed for students from countries all over the world, who are interested in gaining a second international fully accredited master degree while staying at the home university. The program is based on the idea of equivalence of study contents and aims at supplementation of certain courses to extend knowledge and skills in specific fields of environmental sciences.

EURAXESS Science Slam India 2017

The EURAXESS Science Slam India is a competition open to all career levels starting with MA/MSc candidates (research-based or mixed) - from universities, research institutes or private sector, in all fields of research including Social Sciences and Humanities, Life Sciences and Engineering, of any nationality and age who are based in India. The EURAXESS Science Slam India 2017 will be organised in partnership with Global Innovation & Technology Alliance (GITA), the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) and IndiaBioscience with the support of Finnair on December 8, 2017 in Kolkata. The candidates must submit a short video explaining their project for a pre-selection. After that the finalists will perform and throw light on their project in an entertaining way in front of the review panel and a mixed audience who will choose the winner this year.

The Indo-German Science and Technology Centre (IGSTC) invites proposals for organizing Indo-German workshops on areas of mutual interest with an aim towards creating platforms for substantive interactions between scientists/researchers from academia and industry. The workshops have to take place in India or Germany and to be designed around a specific research topic out of thematic areas relevant to both DST and BMBF, which includes thematic areas of 2+2 project calls. The Max Planck Research School for Solar System Science (MPS) at the University of Göttingen invites applications for PhD positions in Solar System Science. It offers a research-oriented doctoral programme covering the physical aspects of Solar System science. It is jointly run by MPS and University of Gottingen. Research at the MPS covers three main areas, namely, ‘Sun and Heliosphere’, ‘Solar and Stellar Interiors’ and ‘planets and Comets’. The students collaborate with leading scientists in these fields. The call is open to students from all countries and offers an international three-year PhD program.
