German Embassy hosts lunch for participants of the PAD Award Winner Programm 2017
This summer eight Indian students from different parts of India were invited to partake in the scholarship programme by the Pädagogischer Austauschdient (PAD). The Cultural Counsellor of the German Embassy, Dietrich Graf v.d. Schulenburg was present at the Airport in New Delhi to see them off during their departure to Germany in June this year. At that time the counsellor congratulated them on their selection for the prestigious programme and encouraged them for further learning of the German language and higher education in Germany.
In order to welcome the participants after their return from Germany, the Cultural Counsellor hosted a lunch on 29th September 2017 at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Partners from the Goethe Institut (GI), the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) and German School New Delhi were also present at the luncheon. The highly motivated children were very enthusiastic about their visit at the Embassy. The Counsellor and the students discussed various aspects of the cultural and political impressions that participants had gathered during their visit. They acknowledged that learning a language can open new avenues for the youth in this globalized world. The pupils also shared their experience in Germany and of living in a German host family.
Every year approx. 500 selected pupils from around 90 countries in the world are invited to Germany to participate in the four weeks long PAD scholarship programme. These are the students who have performed excellently well in the German language at school level.
The International Scholarship Programme aims at promoting the German language abroad and grants scholarships to school students worldwide. The programme is funded by the Federal Foreign office and organized by PAD. The selection of the Indian students was carried out by the Goethe Institute Max Mueller Bhavan and the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA).
The Pädagogischer Austauschdienst is the sole public organization in Germany working on behalf of the Federal States to promote international exchange and cooperation in the school sector. The PAD is a department of the Secretariat of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (Kultusministerkonferenz).
