Strengthening Indo-German business relations — Press conference by VDMA and German Embassy New Delhi

To highlight the German industries’ contribution to India’s economic growth, the German Embassy New Delhi held a press conference on 20 September. The event was organized in collaboration with VDMA, the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association.

In his statement, Ambassador Dr Martin Ney highlighted the important role of VDMA for Indo-German business relations, as it represents key industries of Germany. Through the business ventures of its members, VDMA is actively engaged in priority initiatives of the current Government of India, such as “Make in India”, “Smart Cities” and “Skill India”. VDMA is Europe's largest industrial network and, with more than 3,150 member companies, represents around one million jobs in Germany.

Ambassador Ney also briefed on the broader developments in the economic ties between Germany and India. “In 2015, German exports to India stood at roughly 9.8 billion Euros. But trade is not a one-way street: Indian deliveries to the German mechanical engineering sector have increased by more than six percent to 280 million euros in the first six months of 2016”, said Ambassador Ney.
