Ambassador Dr Martin Ney visits Bhutan

German Ambassador to India, Dr Martin Ney, who is also responsible for German-Bhutanese relations, visited Bhutan from 9th to 12th May. He held extensive political talks with the Bhutanese Government and visited German-Bhutanese projects.
During his visit, Ambassador Dr Ney had an audience with the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Ambassador Dr Ney also met the Bhutanese Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay. German-Bhutanese cooperation, also in the United Nations as well as global and regional politics were among the topics discussed.
With Damcho Dorji, Foreign Minister of Bhutan, the German Ambassador spoke about regional stability and the deepening of German-Bhutanese and EU-Bhutanese relations. Other politicial appointments of the Ambassador included a meeting with the Economy Minister, Lekey Dorji. They explored means and ideas to enhance the bilateral business relations and German investments in Bhutan.
Together with Yeshey Dorji, Minister for Agriculture and Forests, Ambassador Dr Ney unveiled a plaque at the 'Bhutan German Friendship Plantation', which had been inaugurated by German Environment Minister, Dr Barbara Hendricks with Minister Yeshey Dorji, recently. Ambassador Dr Martin Ney also met Dr Ugen Dophu, Secretary, Bhutanese Ministry of Health.
Ambassador Dr Ney visited the Punakha Hospital for a joint handover ceremony with Siemens donating an x-ray machine to the hospital. The German Embassy New Delhi has been supporting the hospital for several years.
The German Ambassador to India also hosted an event on German-Bhutanese cooperation. The event was organised in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Throughout his visit, Ambassador Dr Ney was accompanied by representatives of the German business community comprising of Gerd Höfner, Managing Director and President, Siemens Healthcare, India, and Amit Bisht, Head of the Regional Centre Southern Asia, Daimler Commercial Vehicles.
