German companies ready to help modernise Indian agri-business

An expert meeting on ‘Making farming a business: Financing for agriculture – rural loans and farm finance’ was held at the German Embassy on 6th March. It was jointly organised by the Embassy and the German Agribusiness Alliance at the German Asia-Pacific Business Association.

“The German companies can help India immensely in transforming the agri-business in the country. Investments in the modernisation of agriculture is a precondition if India wants to double farmers' income by 2022”, Ambassador Dr Ney said in his opening speech. “German companies can draw on a strong and long-lasting history of doing business with and in India and are prepared for the huge demand for investment and innovation”, he added. Representatives from agribusiness associations and institutes, financial institutes from both India and Germany were invited.

V. N. Kale, Additional Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Govt. of India, was also present at the meeting and made significant contributions to the discussion with his expertise.
