Latest News from the Visa Section in 2011:
The Visa Section of Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai will be closed on Monday, 15th of August and on Monday, 03rd of October 2011.
To avoid any inconvenience for you as a traveller please notice the following important information:
Your visa application can only be submitted and processed at this Consulate General if your main destination is Germany - proven by various or requested documentations. If not, applicants will and have to be referred to the other Consulates General of the Schengen Partners in Mumbai in line with the Schengen Visa Codex.
Due to technical reasons, the Online Schengen Visa application form is not available. (It is preferred and at a later point of time mandatory to use and submit the Online Schengen Visa application form.)
Please notice: Column no 32. (border of first entry or transit route) has to be filled out with the following capital letters DEU (stands for Germany).

Before you send an enquiry, please ensure that you have explored all existing information on the this website to save you time. Our office is committed to respond to your visa enquiry. Only visa enquiries for which the information is not available on our website or processing times (like family reunion) are longer than announced will receive a reply.
An official business invitation should be carried by the applicant and not to be sent to the Consulate General by fax.
There are no slots for appointments for Visa applications. Applicants will be served on a first come - first serve basis. The counters are open from 08:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Due to the high number of expected visa applications in the summer months (April to June 2011) applicants are advised to apply for the visa in advance. Visa applications can be submitted upto 3 months before the intended travel date.
Applicants are requested NOT to carry big or heavy bags to the Visa Section as for security reasons such bags will not be allowed inside the premises.
Urgent Notice
With immediate effect, all applicants and travel agents are requested to use the new Visa web based application form which can be downloaded from the link on the Schengen visa page. Applicants using the old application forms will be accepted for a reasonable time limit only. Applicants using the new form do not need to provide the "Declaration on Genuineness of Documents submitted" as this declaration is included in the new form.
Please note that from 5th of April 2010 only passports that have been issued (not extended!!!) during the past ten years can be endorsed with a Visa. Applicants have to present a valid passport satisfying the following criteria:
Issued within the previous 10 years; contain at least two blank pages and its validity shall extend at least three months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the Schengen Member States or, in case of several visits, after the last intended date of departure from the territory of the Schengen Member States.

Demand Draft Payment for Visa Fees
The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany informs, that from 9th of May 2011 the visa fee per applicant is INR 4.000/- for Schengen (children below the age of 6 are free, children between 6 and 12 years are entitled for a reduced fee of INR 2.400/-) & for long term/residence permit visa: INR 4.000/- for adult & INR 2.000/- for child. The fees have to be paid by --Demand Draft-- at the time of submission of the visa application. The Demand Draft should be in the name of the "Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany , Mumbai", has to be payable in Mumbai and must not be older than 2 months. Two copies of the Demand Draft Form ( the form is given below for download) should be duly filled and be submitted at the counter along with the required documents upon applying for visa.
