Visit Visa (without a visit to Relatives or Friends)

Application procedure:

First-time applicants have to submit the application form along with the required documents in person. Frequent travellers may submit their application and documents also through an agent or a travel agency.

Please note:

A Schengen visa does not neccessarily imply access to other Schengen territories as the final authorisation of entry remains with the immigration  officials at the respective borders.

The purpose of the visit cannot be altered after entering the Schengen territory.

Short term visas cannot be converted into residential permits after arrival in Germany.

No simultaneous application for short and long term visa is permitted.

Application Form for Schengen Visa

To apply for a Schengen Visa at the German Consulate General's Visa Department the applicant's main destination has to be Germany or Iceland.

Please find below the link to the online Application Form for a Schengen Visa. Applicants are requested to fill in the required details. Please write "DEU" in field no. 32. The form then needs to be saved and printed and finally signed by the applicant to be submitted along with the other required documents.

Passport and Photograph

Passport

The Visa section of the German Consulate General can only issue visas to applicants holding a valid passport. The applicants have to present a passport fulfilling the following criteria:

- The passport should have been issued (and not extended) in the last 10 years.

- The passport should contain atleast 2 blank pages.

-The passport should have a minimum validity of 3 months beyond the date of return from the Schengen territory.

Please note: Passports containing illegible data will not be accepted.

Photograph

The photograph must be 35 mm X 45 mm in size with the face covering about three quarters of the area of the photograph. The background of the photograph should be light in color.

Visa Fees

The visa fees are subject to change.

Applicants have to pay the visa fees by demand draft. The Demand Draft must be in the name of the "Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mumbai", payable in Mumbai and must not be older than two months. 

Please Note the visa fees will not be reimbursed in case of the visa being rejected. Visa fees will be waived off for spouses and children of EU-Nationals.

Overseas Medical Insurance

Applicants need to have medical insurance valid for the duration of their stay.

The overseas medical insurance should have a minimum coverage of € 30,000 per person.The claims against the insurance company must be recoverable in the Schengen countries, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

It should cover all expenses that might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment.

Proof of Financial Status

Applicants are required to submit a proof of their financial status like bank statements, salary slips, income-tax returns etc.

Letter stating purpose of travel

Applicants are required to submit a letter on a letterhead complete with personal address stating the purpose of travel.

List of Hotel bookings or Invitation Letter from a resident of Germany

Applicants are required to submit a detailed itinerary with hotel bookings or an invitation letter from a resident of Germany.

Declaration of Authenticity

A Declaration of Authenticity is required to be signed by the applicant as a guarantee that all information and documents provided by the applicant are genuine. Knowingly providing false information may result in the applicant being denied a visa or being deported from Germany, should a visa already have been issued.

Travelling with minor Children

  • Applicationform(s) and declaration form(s) of minor child(ren) (below 18 years of age) must be signed by both parents with a document to prove the Parent’s identity (e.g. copy of Indian passport or PAN card).
  • In addition to the above if one or both parents are not travelling with the child, an NOC has to be provided. (pdf form is available for download).
  • In the case of death of one parent, a death certificate issued by the Municipality has to be provided. If the child's parents are divorced, the Divorce decree and the court order of the child's custody has to be submitted along with the visa application.
