Guest Scientist Visa
Application procedure:
First-time applicants have to submit the application form along with the required documents in person. Please note the visa processing may take upto 3 working days. However, in certain cases it may take 6 - 12 weeks. If the applicant is being accompanied by famliy, the same is applicable to the family member(s). Proof of relationship (e.g. birth certificate or marriage certificate etc.) may have to be submitted. Simultaneous applications for short term visas and long term visas cannot be entertained.
Please Note short term visas cannot be converted into residential permits after arrival in Germany.

Application Form for a Guest Scientist Visa
Please find below the links to the online Application Form for a Guest Scientist Visa. The choice of the application form depends on the duration of the visit. For visits lasting 90 days or lesser, please choose the application form for a Schengen visa. For post-doctorate studies, please choose the long term visa application form. Applicants are requested to fill in the required details. The form then needs to be saved and printed and finally signed by the applicant to be submitted along with the other required documents.
Passport and Photograph
Passport
The Visa section of the German Consulate General can only issue visas to applicants holding a valid passport. The applicants have to present a passport fulfilling the following criteria:
- The passport should have been issued (and not extended) in the last 10 years.
- The passport should contain atleast 2 blank pages.
-The passport should have a minimum validity of, 3 months (incase of short-term visits) or 12 months (incase of long-term visits), beyond the date of return from the Schengen territory.
Please note: Passports containing illegible data will not be accepted.
Photograph
The photograph must be 35 mm X 45 mm in size with the face covering about three quarters of the area of the photograph. The background of the photograph should be light in color.

Visa Fees
The visa fees are subject to change.
Applicants have to pay the visa fees by demand draft. The Demand Draft must be in the name of the "Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mumbai", payable in Mumbai and must not be older than two months.
Please Note the visa fees will not be reimbursed in case of the visa being rejected. Visa fees will be waived off for spouses and children of EU-Nationals.

Invitation letter from the German university/science institute
Applicants are required to submit the invitation letter from the German university or the research organisation with details regarding the duration of the stay and activity to be pursued by the applicant.
Letter from the Indian organisation/employer
Applicants are required to submit a letter from the Indian organisation or employer stating the details of the research to be conducted.
Marksheets and Certificates
Applicants are requested to submit the original and A4 sized copies of their marksheets and degree certificates. Only course completion certificates are not sufficient.
Scholarship/Fellowship Award Letter
Applicants are requested to submit the letter of scholarship or Fellowship received.
Declaration of Authenticity
A Declaration of Authenticity is required to be signed by the applicant as a guarantee that all information and documents provided by the applicant are genuine. Knowingly providing false information may result in the applicant being denied a visa or being deported from Germany, should a visa already have been issued.
