Visa and Consular Services - Types of Visas
The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai can only accept visa applications from persons residing in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Daman and Diu.
To apply for a Schengen Visa at the German Consulate General's Visa Department the applicant's main destination has to be Germany or Iceland (as substantiated by the necessary documentation). If the applicant's main destination is any other Schengen country, the applicant will have to apply at the Consulate General of that country, in accordance with the Schengen Visa Codex.

Schengen Visa
A Schengen Visa is mandatory for tourist or business purposes in Germany and other Schengen countries. It entitles the Schengen visa holder to visit Germany and/or the other Schengen countries for a total of up to 90 days within a period of 6 months from the date of issue.
All SCHENGEN applicants are requested to fill in the online application forms
according to VIDEX format, which can be found on our website.
Please ensure that a high quality printout of the barcode is submitted with the application

Transit Visa
A transit visa is required for all Indian Nationals transiting through Germany en-route to their destinations.
Indian Nationals holding the below-mentioned residence permits/valid visas DO NOT NEED a transit visa:
- a valid residence permit/valid visa for one of the member states of the European Union or the European Economic Area (Schengen countries plus Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Liechtenstein)
- a valid residence permit for Andorra, Monaco and San Marino
- a valid visa for Japan, Canada or the United States of America
There are 2 types of Transit Visas:
An Airport Transit Visa is required by Indian Nationals transiting through Germany en-route to their destinations. The Airport Transit Visa has to be applied for by the passengers even if they will not be leaving the airport premises.

A Transit Visa is required by Indian Nationals en-route to their destination within the Schengen territory via Germany. The transit visa allows the passengers to exit the airport premises in Germany but does not entitle them to stay in Germany.

A student visa is required by Indian students, who wish to pursue higher education in Germany and HAVE SECURED ADMISSION in a German college or University.
