Consulate General celebrates the Day of German Unity, October 3, 2016

In keeping with the tradition of the past, this year too the German Consulate General celebrated the Day of German Unity on the 3rd of October with the friends and well-wishers of Germany. The theme for this year was “Helgoland,” a German archipelago in the North Sea, which happens to be the birth place of the German National anthem, which  happens to celebrate 175 years of existence this year.

Hosts Consul General Dr. Jürgen Morhard along with his wife, Petra welcomed more than 600 guests, which included members from the political, cultural, educational and business communities alike. The Chief Guest for the evening was Consul General Dr. Morhard with the winning bidder Enlarge image (© GK Mumbai) Chief of Protocol and Principal Secretary, Mr. Sumit Mullick. The guests were entertained by a musical performance by Duo Waterkant, famous for the rendition of sea chanteys, followed by dinner.

The highlight of the evening was the auctioning of the famous German beach chair, known in German as the “Strandkorb”, the proceeds of which will be handed over to the Mumbai Mobile Creches.
