Mumbai, the „Heart of Bollywood“ is undisputably one of  the most significant places in the south east asian region for films. Several studios and production houses are based in Mumbai. With films like “Stars on Earth”, “My Name is Khan” and the Oscar-winner “Slumdog Millionaire”, the Indian actors and directors are approaching the global audience with a renewed confidence. Bollyood is celebrating the discovery of this global audience, which values its body of work as an asset.

During the Berlinale – the Berlin Film Festival held in Germany every year, the first Indo-German Film Agreement between the 2 countries was signed on 16.02.2007.

With the signing of this agreement a suitable legal framework for collaboration between  producers from Germany and India has been created. As per the agreement, films, that will be jointly produced by German and Indian producers will be considered as national films, thereby fully utilizing the funding programmes made available to the german and the indian co-producers in the film industry in both the countries.

The Federal Republic of Germany has signed film agreements with 18 nations, India being the 7th such country outside of Europe, with which Germany has signed such an agreement. The signing of the agreement is a proof of the excellent bilateral relations shared by the two countries, which have to be further expanded in the fields of economics and culture.
