The Consul General

Head of the German Consulate General in Mumbai is  Dr. Leopold-Theodor Heldman. He is officially appointed as Consul General and in this capacity responsible for fostering the bilateral relations between Germany and India, especially in the area of the Consulate's jurisdiction. Dr. Heldman came to Mumbai in Summer 2010 and has a special committment to the German Year in India.

Honorary Consul, Goa

In Goa you will find an Honorary Consul providing limited consular assistance in the state of Goa. The Honorary Consul, Mr. Dean Menezes, will assist German citizens with regard to documents such as Lebensbescheinigungen and Reiseausweis. The Honorary Consul does not accept visa applications nor issues visas. He also does not certify any documents and signatures.

Schengen Visa

Visa and Consular Services

The German Consulate General in Mumbai provides visa and consular services for residents of its jurisdiction which extends to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Daman and Diu.

The Visa Department processes visa applications for Indian nationals travelling to Germany and residing in the Consulate General's jurisdiction.

The Consular Department provides assistance to meet official requirements from German authorities, e.g. Social Security Refunds, legalisations and attestations, family law and others.

"House of the Cultures of the World" in Berlin is Germany's national centre for contemporary non-European art.

Culture

The cultural department of the Consulate General works in close cooperation with the Max Mueller Bhavan and other German institutions for culture and education. It co-hosts events exhibiting German fine arts and performing arts, supports independent Indian and German artists in showcasing their talents. It also works in partnership with local schools in promoting the German language and culture.

Economics

The Economics department monitors the development of various business sectors in India. It works closely with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI) , the foreign trade and inward investment agency of the Federal Republic of Germany, for promoting and nurturing business activities.  

Economic Cooperation and Development

The Consulate General is following up projects of eonomic and technical cooperation in its jurisdiction and supports at its best the implementing agencies and other organisations in the fields of development cooperation. Besides, the Consulate General disposes on financial means to support so-called small-scale projects implemented on grass-root level by local non-government organisations, focussing mainly on education, health care and poverty alleviation.
