The aim of DAAD is to promote academic cooperation world wide, especially through the exchange of students, scholars, academics, and scientists. In developing countries, the DAAD is actively engaged in promoting academic cooperation. Being a renowned and long established institution in the realm of high level education on an international basis it features an impressive network of Alumnis.

The regional office of  DAAD in India is based in New Delhi and it has an Information Centre in Pune and an Information Point in Mumbai.
