VDMA Engineering Summit, Pune
The first VDMA Engineering Summit, organized by the VDMA foreign trade together with the VDMA India Office, was held in Pune on 11 September, 2012. VDMA India office has its presence in India for more than 10 years now.The agenda of the summit was to bring together representatives of all segments and branches of the VDMA member companies and to discuss the latest developments in the Indian market. The summit was attended by the top Management of close to 75 VDMA member companies.
Mr. Rajesh Nath, Managing Director, VDMA India Office in his welcome address highlighted the developments of the Indo-German trade stating ''The Indo-German trade volume has increased nearly six times since 1991, with exports to Germany increasing five times, and imports from Germany to India almost seven times. With an export of around 3.69 Billion Euros in 2011, the machinery export took the lion's share of 31 percent in Germany's total exports to India.'' Mr. Nath also said ''Within Asia, India is the second most important market for the German Machinery Manufacturers.'' Mr. Ulrich Akermann, Managing Director, Foreign Trade Division of VDMA Frankfurt made a presentation on German Engineering Industry and Bilateral Relations. Practical examples on "Human Resource Management" and "Managing financial risks" were presented by Uhde India and Deutsche Bank.The presentations were followed by a panel discussion focussing on the most important parameters for successful engagement in India. The expert panel consisted of representatives of Voith Turbo, CLAAS, Festo, Schwing Stetter and SMS India. Some questions posed to the panel were regarding the hurdles faced by German companies when they set up their facilities in India and how the financial crisis of 2012 has affected their business.
The evening concluded with cocktails and dinner with a participation of more than 100 guests.
Besides the summit, a visit to the Volkswagen plant in Chakan was also organised the following day.
