"Bamboo Blues" - a photographic exhibition

The German Consulate General Kolkata has organised a photographic exhibition on the last dance-theatre performance in India by Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch “Bamboo Blues” in Kolkata. The exhibition at The Harrington Street Arts Centre was opened on 4 November jointly by the German Consul General Rainer Schmiedchen and The Harrington Street Arts Centre and BMW.

When Pina Bausch came to Kolkata in 2006 to collect material and inspiration for Bamboo "Bamboo Blues" - a photographic exhibition Enlarge image (© GK Kalkutta) Blues, the photographer Dev Nayak met her. Some of the beautiful photos that were taken by Dev Nayak in January 2008 during the performance of “Bamboo Blues” in Kolkata, have been displayed in the exhibition at the Harrington Street Arts Center Kolkata. The Harrington Streets Art Centre and OSL Prestige BMW have joined hands with the German Consulate General Kolkata to sponsor this exhibition.

Philippina "Pina" Bausch was a German performer of modern dance, choreographer, dance teacher and ballet director. Her unique style, a blend of movements, sounds and prominent stage sets, and her elaborate cooperation with performers during the composition of a piece gave rise to a special style of performance known as Tanztheater (dance theatre). Pina Bausch, considered to be one of the most important contemporary choreographer, passed away in June 2009, at the age of almost 69.
