Visit to Odisha

Consul General Rainer Schmiedchen made his maiden visit to Odisha in November 2011. In Bhubaneswar he had an interesting discussion on economy, youth and social policies with the Chief Minister Navin Patnaik.

Enlarge image (© GK Kalkutta) Mr Schmiedchen, accompanied by his wife, visited a few projects in Kandhamal district of Odisha that have been financially supported by the German Consulate General Kolkata.

Mr Schmiedchen was very impressed with the execution of six solar lamp projects funded by the German Government in that area. He got first hand experience on the importance of these solar lamps for the people over there. These lamps have improved their living conditions considerably as they no longer need to walk up to 3 hours to procure kerosene for their kerosene lamps, previously the only source of light in the dark.
