The First floor of the existing school building run by Living Hope at Taldi, South 24 Parganas has been built with the sponsorship of the German Consulate General Kolkata. Vocational training courses on tailoring and computer are conducted by the NGO Living Hope in the newly-built classrooms on the first floor.

On 15th May, a very successful Indo-German Business Conclave was organised by VDMA and ASSOCHAM. Consul General Rainer Schmiedchen was impressed by the high esteem that German companies enjoy. The interest of the Press was also overwhelming.

On 20 May Consul General Rainer Schmiedchen addressed the members of the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce, perhaps the oldest but in any case one of the most active trade chambers in Asia . Main issues discussed were economic co-operation in high-tech and vocational training.

Ninety three years back on 1st June 1921 Rabindranath Tagore, a great Indian poet, novelist, philosopher, ecologist and a Nobel laureate gave a lecture at the Assembly Hall of Berlin’s Friedrich Wilhelm University (Today’s Humboldt University of Berlin). With his speech and his concept of ‘one world’ Tagore mesmerized the audience. The speech and the sound file of the speech respectively at Humboldt University of Berlin, alma mater of Consul General Schmiedchen, has been rediscovered in the University archive.
