Chennai 24/7 -- A public photographic art exhibition

On 14 March 2012, Consul General Dr. Stefan Weckbach - together with Mr. Deepak Krishan, General Manager Southern Railway, Mr. Karl Pechatscheck, Director Goethe Institute/Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai, and Art Chennai convenor Sanjay Tulsyan - opened a large format photo exhibition at the Thiruvanmiyur station of Chennai's Mass Rapid Transit System MRTS. The exhibition showcases 130 images selected out of more than 1,100 images submitted by over 370 photographers taking part in this project organized by Goethe Institute/Max Müller Bhavan in the frame of the Year of Germany in India with its motto "Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities" and is one of the highlights of the week-long Art Chennai festival.

Walls and pillars of the usually austere MRTS station are now plastered with huge photographs that capture the essence of Chennai. The inauguration was graced by the performance of "Mahaphone Clang", a joint venture between the German jazz ensemble "Lautstark 4" and Chennai-born percussionist Ramesh Shotham who is now living in Cologne/Germany. The exhibition a second part of which is shown on Thirumayilai MRTS station is open till 21 March, 2012.
