German Ambassador to India Dr Martin Ney visited Chennai from 21st to 24th January. He held fruitful talks with Dr. K. Rosaiah, the Governor of Tamil Nadu. The Ambassador also attended the Annual Regional Meeting of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), which was themed 'Make in India – Made by Germany'. As the chief guest, Ambassador Dr Ney gave a speech, in which he advocated the prompt resumption of FTA (free trade agreement) negotiations between India and the European Union. "An FTA will help in investment decisions of foreign investors. It will also make Indian companies more competitive," Dr Ney said.
Dr. Ney and his wife made a courtesy call on the Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, at his ancestral home, Amir Mahal, where they discussed the political situation in India and the region, including secularism and religious tolerance. The Ambassador also took a tour of the BMW manufacturing plant in Chennai.
