Friday afternoon saw the official welcome of the Coimbatore built replica of the first Benz Motorwagen in Chennai. A crowd of motorists and a passionate audience had the chance to see the replica of the first Benz Motorwagen at the Taj Connemara after it completed its historic tour from Coimbatore. The Motorwagen was first driven by Bertha Benz from Mannheim to Pforzheim in 1886. As the Consul General remarked in his speech, it is no coincidence that the replica was built in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, as the passion for technology and engineering is what unites Tamil Nadu and Germany. Consul General Fabig – in the presence of the Commissioner for Tourism - thanked Mr. G.D. Gopal, the Managing Trustee of the GeDee Car Museum in Coimbatore, for the opportunity to show the car in Chennai and congratulated his team for driving the 500 kilometer long stretch between the two cities.
