It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the German Consulate General in Bangalore.

As an export nation and a business location, Germany considers South India, and especially Bangalore, of great significance. Bangalore is where the technological heart of India beats. It is of no surprise that this region acts as a magnet to foreign investors, especially to those from Germany. In his speech at the Founders’ Day Lecture of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce in Bangalore on 22 June 2012, the German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Guido Westerwelle, underlined the dynamics of the bilateral economic relations. The very presence of more than 150 Indo-German ventures, with a wide range of investments and a large number of employees, is a very impressive proof to this fact.

On the occasion of 60 years of Indo-German diplomatic relations, we are currently celebrating the year of “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”.
The centrepiece of the year of
Germany in India is the “Indo-German Urban Mela” which was inaugurated by the German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Guido Westerwelle along with the Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka, D.V. Sadananda Gowda on 22 June 2012 in Bangalore. The pavilions hosted interactive presentations by various German companies and organisations on topics and solutions related to “StadtRäume – CitySpaces”. Furthermore, the organisers offered a wide-ranging programme, including cultural performances and conferences. Also the beergarden was not to be missed.

Bangalore is a renowned location for world-class scientific research. Being one of the most innovative industrial countries, Germany proves to be one of the two top partners to India in international scientific cooperation.  The high number of initiatives and cooperations show just how important this partnership is to us. To quote an example: at the end of September 2011, the Indo-German Max Planck Centre for Lipid Research was inaugurated in Bangalore.

With the official opening of the new office of the Consulate General by the German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs on 22 June 2012, we are now able to offer comprehensive services to you right in the heart of Bangalore.  You will find all the details on our website.

With warm regards,

Yours sincerely,

Dr Ingo Karsten.
