Germany and France’s entry into the semi-finals lead to an impromptu celebration among football fans in Bengaluru. The German and the French Consulates organized a live screening event at the Hotel Shangri-La. Though the two sides were competing against each other, the atmosphere was very festive and positive. The German Consul General Jörn Rohde and the French Consul General Francois Gautier greeted more than 400 football enthusiasts who followed the thrilling semi-final. The response was phenomenal and unfortunately many had to be turned away due to the popularity of the event. The hosts of the EURO 2016 would go on to defeat the German team by 2-0. The German fans accepted the outcome graciously. It was not only a celebration of football but also a celebration of friendship and mutual respect among the neighbours. In the spirit of the friendship between Germany and France now both French and German fans keep their fingers crossed that “Les Bleus” will win the finals against Portugal.
The event was made possible through the generous support from the sponsors Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India, Bosch, Continental, Festo, Atout France, Business France, Decathlon, Renault, Shangri-La and Kingfisher.Enlarge image French Consul General Mr. Gautier and the German Consul General Mr. Rohde (© John Rowell Photography)
