Hubert Reilard awarded with the Cross of the Order of Merit

The German Ambassador to India, Dr. Martin Ney, awarded Mr. Hubert Reilard in a festive ceremony on 30th March 2017 with the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Mr. Reilard is honoured for his long standing contribution to Indo-German friendship, which goes far beyond the normal level. The ceremony took place at the Taj West End Hotel in Bengaluru. One of the highlights was a presentation of songs and dances performed by students of “Shanti Bhavan Residential School".

Ambassador Dr. Ney declared that the Order of Merit is a tribute to Mr. Reilard´s outstanding contribution to Indo-German relations and to his huge business, social, educational and cultural commitment.

Mr. Reilard came to India in 1995 to work for a German company and dedicated much of the last 20 years to bring forward Indo-German ties. He was President of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (ICGG) between 2015 and 2016. For 12 years he has been Chairman of the IGCC’s South-West Regional Council. Besides he is speaker of the German Business Group in Bangalore, which he founded 15 years ago as a communication platform between representatives of German companies and government institutions in South India.

In addition to his business engagement, he has been organizing and promoting various cultural, social and sporting projects for many years. For more than 10 years he has been one of the main sponsors of the school project “Shanti Bhavan e.V.”, which attends to the full-day education and support of about 250 socially disadvantaged and needy children from Indian families. He has also been tirelessly promoting vocational training projects in cooperation with the German companies in Bangalore.

The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany was instituted in 1951 by Federal President Theodor Heuss. It is the only honour that may be awarded in all fields of endeavour and is the highest tribute the Federal Republic of Germany can pay to individuals, both Germans and foreigners, for services to the nation.
