In a memorable ceremony at the German Consulate in Bengaluru today, Professor Gadagkar was awarded the cross of the order of merit by the Consul General Joern Rohde.
Prof. Gadagkar, is a scientist of international reputation, one of the leading experts in the field of insect sociobiology and social ecology, professor at the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.
Mr. Rohde said “I am honoured to present the Cross of the Order of Merit on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany. This merit not only symbolises Professor Gadagkar’s academic achievements but is also an appreciation of his invaluable contribution to Indo-German Science Cooperation. Science today knows no boundaries and close cooperation between scientists over different continents enhances scientific research”.
Professor Gadagkar remarked that he is humbled to receive this award. He has a long standing research cooperation with Germany as it is the Mecca for interdisciplinary research. He wants to inculcate the same culture in India with his initiative Center for Contemporary Research at IISc. The only Nobel laureate from his field of social ecology comes also from Germany.
He urged more and more students to take up science and research as research is indeed fun!
The ceremony was attended by eminent scientists, professors, his PhD students from IISc and media representatives.
