The German Foreign Missions are part of the 'Three Pillar' approach to trade and investment promotion by the German Government. The other two pillars are the Auslandshandelskammern (Foreign Trade Chambers), which in India are represented by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, and Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI).
The work of the Economic and Commercial Department focuses on the macroeconomic environment and economic policy issues while the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce looks after the practical aspects of doing business in India. Germany Trade and Invest, based in New Delhi and Mumbai, gathers information on market conditions, trade and investment opportunities, international tenders and other relevant information which is published in Germany.
This set-up is completed by an institution under Indo-German Development Cooperation. The German Development Society (DEG), is an agency for private industry, both in India and Germany to promote business cooperation in the field of technology transfer and in establishing joint ventures.
