Germany and India have a long tradition of friendship. To commemorate this partnership, the two countries are celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Year of Germany in India and Days of India in Germany.
India's relations with Germany have seen a tremendous boost over the past years. The two countries are steadfast and dynamic partners on the international stage. Both countries join forces in their commitment to tackle the challenges of our globalised world, like reforming of the global finance system or combatting international terrorism. Our political leaders meet on a regular basis in bilateral and multilateral frameworks. However, this strategic partnership reaches far beyond government contacts. It is the people-to-people relations in business, science, culture, and the contacts between our societies, that give the Indo-German relations their stability.
Ties between our countries have been long and manifold. The India boom started early in Germany. Many German poets, writers and philosophers like Johann Gottfried Herder, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Hermann Hesse and Max Mueller wrote extensively about far-away India. When Rabindranath Tagore visited Germany in the nineteen-twenties, he was welcomed rapturously. Since then, India's and Germany's fascination for each other has increased manifold.
The Embassy enhances political and civil society contacts as well as focuses on economic and cultural cooperation. Providing excellent consular services to our host country's and our own citizens is another eminent aim.
